The talk was particularly timely because of recent changes in the location and services within the village. The talk described the organisations who had responsibility for carrying the mail. The main routes used the nearby A5 and A1 and there were local services from there to Bedford, from Bedford to Sharnbrook and then to the surrounding villages.

Mail was not normally delivered to the door so residents had to collect items from a delivery distribution point.

It was interesting to see how the role of postal officer was kept in the family and often passed from one generation to the next.

The location of tFrank and William Line as postmanhe village post office at different times was shown in a series of photographs. The oldest picture from our archive is for Frank Line.
