Details

The walk started in Bridgend which is the longstanding boundary between Chellington and Carlton. The churches of the two parishes are very close. The walk towards the river crossing higlighted the original tracks converging towards the bridge/ford. The route up the hill showed the platforms of cottages at the rear of the church and then continued to the site of the parsonage at the junction of 5 roads. Two other hamlets wre sited between here and the Pavenham ridge which was approached alongside a well defined hollow-way. Ridge & Furrow had mainly been obliterated by modern ploughing. The importance of the river as an ancient boundary was emphasised.
