Details

The talk introduced the style and format of shops of the Georgian period and contrasted them to the Department stores created in Victorian times. The shopping characteristics of the Gibbard family were examined in detail and compared and contrasted with the Gery family at Bushmead. The collection of receipts/invoices and account books maintained by Mrs Gibbard and her staff are very unusual and represent an extremely valuable resource available to us at the archive
