Teh type of trench warfare seen in WW1 required an unusual approach to bring supplies are to the front line and to bring casualties back to the field hospitals. This was solved by the construction of railway tracks which could be extended or moved as the front line changed. The nature of the rolling stock was customised to carry troops and ammunition in one direction and with the facilities to hold casualties on stretchers away from the frontline.
The talk was supported by homemade working models of the engines and rolling stock.
