The tour around the complex was given by one the experienced guides who acted the part of a 1940’s young female code breaker. She emphasized how autonomous the different services were and how the processes were broken down such that few people understood everything that was going on. The site had a large number of people working in shift patterns who were billeted quite some distance from the site.
Some of the original buildings as still used for museum display but many of the nissen huts were dismantled. Making the old buildings save for museum visits has been an issue.
The displays including many of the deciphering devices created to decode the german military communications. The machines were capable of testing the algorithms used for encrypting the messages.
