Project Plan
When a prisoner was found guilty of a serious crime they may well have been given a Death sentence. Whether they were executed, generally by hanging, is not always obvious. In some cases the sentence was reprieved, and the criminal was either held in gaol or included in the transportation programme.
This project looks at all case where the Death sentence was given and looks for similarities or differences between Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.
An understanding of the criminal law at the time will be pivotal.
